Cole & Carrie | Lebanon, MO Senior Photography

They're just like peas & carrots, but as different as black and white. Sweet and structured. Artsy and funny. Cole and Carrie were my first seniors in my small hometown of Lebanon, MO, and boy they are something!

Despite some adverse situations these two have faced together, there was no shortage of smiles, jokes and banter to go around during our session outside of Lebanon. The first stop was a place near and dear to both, their sweet little church where some close family members had been laid to rest. Locations with such strong emotional ties really do make for great shots.

We packed up shop and convoyed down the road to the next stop, land that their father once owned that the twins will soon inherit. The old barn was his pet project until he passed so finding forgotten family momentos shrouded in dust made the experience one to remember for all of us.

Carrie is by far the driven, assertive, go-getter of the pair. A bit of a tomboy at heart, she's sweet and kind and knows exactly what she wants out of life.

Ever the jokester, Cole has style, passion and creativity that's evident from the moment you meet him.  I loved hearing the excitement in his voice as we talked about the Lebanon high school football teamthat he and Carrie help manage (Go Yellow Jackets!)

We wrapped up the session with some gorgeous light at a location that my fiance and his business partner own, just down the road from my own house.

Hip.

Lovely.

Cole & Carrie, you both were fabulous; I'm so blessed to call you part of the BigStar Seniors Family! Best wishes on a future that's full of promise...oh, and...Go Yellow Jackets!

Sweet Teyha | Lebanon, MO Children's Photographer

I'm pretty sure I squealed when I got Joslyn's text.

Barely able to contain my excitement, I texted my childhood friend back, I would LOVE to photograph Teyha!

Between barrel racing on the same NBHA circuit, showing lambs against each other and playing on the same basketball teams, Joslyn and I spent a good deal of time together growing up in our little hometown. As with many childhood friendships, we drifted apart but I always enjoyed running into her at Target or on Facebook.

Her text request was extraordinarily flattering and gave me a chance to catch up with my old friend during her daughter's early morning session in Cheyenne. It was Trail Days week, and if you grew up in Southeast Wyoming, you know what fun there is to be had at all the festivities held in our small hometown. We wanted to wrap up our session with enough time to allow Joslyn, Dustin and Teyha to make it back for the Trail Days Parade.

After chugging down my go-to morning drink (Starbucks nonfat chai with cinnamon), I met the Thompson's at one of my favorite shooting locations in Cheyenne.

During our pre-session consult, Joslyn mentioned that our session would probably progress smoother if Teyha was outside. True to prediction, it only took a couple rounds of Itsy Bitsy Spider for her to warm up to me.

That's one of the benefits of shooting children; thanks to my goofy personality, I'm usually one of the funniest people at the session. :)

Plus, this tutu?? It kills me! Too adorable!

Oh, sweet Teyha! Such a darling girl with two awesome parents. Just a few more years and we'll be doing her senior pictures ;)

Lindsay | Douglas, WY Senior Photography

As a kindergartener, I had a little white sweatshirt with a purple hot air balloon on it that said "Class of 2005" in a funky '90s script.

2005 is, like, forever away. I remember my little, scrunci-wearing self thinking. I wonder what I'll look like in 2005?

Ok, so I was a bit of a weird-o as a small child. Just don't mention that to my dad or he'll launch into "funny" anecdotes about my childhood imaginary friends.

My point is that I can't believe that I'm photographing the Class of 2013 this fall. And, I know, I'll be singing the same tune next fall, lamenting on how quickly another year went by. I just hope the fabulous Lindsay remembers to savor each day of her senior year, including all those fun memories I'm sure she'll make in her photo editing class and with her fellow Douglas FFA Chapter Officers.

You may remember, that we had some awesome locations picked out for this shoot, one of them being the Wyoming State Fairgrounds in Douglas, WY where a couple of her friends met us with three of her show lambs that would be showing at the State Fair the week after our shoot.

I totally dug Lindsay's style, especially these angel earrings she threw on once we moved out of town to a local junk yard.

Driven. Passionate. Daddy's girl. Lindsay is a fabulous girl with a vivid personality and all the makings of the perfect BigStar Senior.

I just wonder if she has a hot air balloon sweatshirt from her kindergarten days...

Sami | Omaha, NE Senior Photography

I have a problem.

It's a good problem, I suppose.

When I came to select the photos to feature in this blog post for Sami's recent session, I couldn't make up my mind on which ones to choose. She's such a pretty girl, she made my job super easy!

A few weeks ago, I met Sami for our session at the Durham Museum and around downtown Omaha. Such a sweetheart! Plus, she came to the session armed with several lip gloss/lip stick choices - one prepared girl :)

And with such a sweet smile...get out of town girl!

Here's my absolute fav from our session. I love me some sun flare!

After shooting in the museum, we moseyed around downtown Omaha a little. Sami's sweet mother was concerned before the session started that it was going to be too hot. Thankfully, we started in the air conditioning, because this photog was sweating her buns off midway through the session. But Sami? Cool as a cucumber, that girl was.

We finished at their family's farm; I never get tired of shooting in a pretty pasture at sundown. Sami pointed out this location where a cluster of trees had a lot of dead branches. Fabulous! My mind is constantly churning during our shoot so I love when my Seniors pipe up with ideas of their own.

I have to say it...
Rawrrr!

Pretty. Vibrant. Sweet.

Sami, you're the perfect BigStar Senior!
